"What was wrong with eBay again?
When eBay reported its last quarter, people totally interpreted it as a big slowdown on the part of this company. Didn't matter that they didn't say it. That was the takeaway.
I don't know. I keep thinking that there is an American Express (AXP - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) for the next generation buried in a pretty terrific auction site, one that has beaten off every competitor for years and years. Sure, it stubbed its toe on Skype, but now that's been valued at almost zero, so any upside is fantastic. Citigroup's recommended-list change, putting eBay in front of the investors today, touches on all of this, including double-digit listings growth from traffic and pricing.
Now the stock is on the move, and I question anyone reading this article to recall why it was downgraded. I know I can't remember. All I know is that we have a stock that is gaining momentum that sells at virtually one times growth rate.
Makes no sense to me.
Wouldn't surprise me if all the analysts who turned on it at $36 get back on, well, at $36! "
