SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC - News) announced the newest member of its embedded processor family of products, the PowerPC® 460EX, at this week's Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose. Based on the Power Architecture(TM) standard, the 460EX is designed for a wide range of high performance applications including multifunction printing, networking, home gateway and general embedded processor requirements.

Based on a 90 nm CMOS® technology, the 460EX offers a significant increase in performance, increased memory capacity and bandwidth, standards-based connectivity, reduced power dissipation, and enhanced security processing acceleration. The 460EX is instruction set compatible with all other AMCC Power Architecture products and applications. The 460EX can be easily migrated from both AMCC processors and those of other Power Architecture vendors in order to deliver upgraded performance and functionality to product designers and engineers.

Performance

The Power Architecture core of the 460EX delivers a frequency ranging from 667MHz to 1.2GHz with 2.0 Dhrystone MIPS/MHz. This processing throughput is significantly higher than is available from most competitive core offerings. Extensive memory support includes 32-Kbyte Instruction and Data Caches, an on chip 256-Kbyte L2 cache and an additional 64-Kbytes of on-chip memory mapped SRAM. The 460EX also supports up to four banks of DDR2 SDRAM memory and a maximum capacity of 16 Gbytes.

Connectivity

The 460EX features a wide range of peripheral integration and connectivity options. The processor has two independent PCI Express interfaces and a 32-bit PCI V2.3 interface; two integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with TCP/IP acceleration, quality of service (QoS) and Jumbo Frame support; a USB 2.0 On-The-Go interface in addition to a separate USB 2.O Host Interface, an on-chip SATA controller and a 32-bit external peripheral bus interface. This is the first Power Architecture SoC design to include an integrated SATA controller to meet the growing demand of customers looking for integrated SATA disk drive connectivity.

Security

The 460EX features a best-in-class Turbo Security Engine that supports standard security protocols such as IPSec®, SSL(TM) and DTLS. The Turbo Security Engine attaches directly to the processor bus for the fastest possible system throughput. The engine also features Public Key Acceleration and True Random Number Generation, as well as full header/trailer protocol processing. It is compliant with FIPS-140-2 and ANSI X9.17 Annex C. The Turbo Security Engine is also designed to aid customers in complying with the proposed IEEE P2600(TM) Standard for Information Technology: Hardcopy Device and System Security.

Power

AMCC Introduces Low-Cost Evaluation Kit for PowerPC 405EZ Processor

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (NASDAQ:AMCC - News) today announced availability of a low-cost, easy-to-use evaluation kit for its PowerPC® 405EZ processor. To accelerate customers' system development time, AMCC's 405EZ kit provides users with a comprehensive set of resources including a custom-designed evaluation board, industry-standard software development tools, sample applications, system-level benchmarks and hardware design files. The kit allows customers to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the 405EZ processor, use the base hardware/software design as a starting-point for their own product development and initiate their system software development using the kit as the target platform.

The kit includes an evaluation board named "Acadia" designed for AMCC by Embedded Planet, LLC. The Acadia board is configured with the Linux® operating system, but also provides the flexibility to load and run other PowerPC-compatible embedded operating systems. Schematics and layout files for the board are provided via AMCC's website so customers can start their designs from a proven baseline. The board, with a 7" x 7" form factor, includes an AMCC 405EZ processor operating at a clock frequency of 416MHz. Other features include 256Mbytes of CRAM, 64Mbytes of NOR Flash, 8Mbytes of NAND flash, one 10/100 Ethernet port, two USB 1.1 host ports, one USB 1.1 device port, two CAN 2.0 ports, two serial ports, ADC and DAC connectors, JTAG connector, trace connector, Linux (2.6 kernel) in flash, and U-Boot boot firmware in flash. AMCC Announces Industry's First Power Architecture Processor Specifically Targeting 802.11n and WiMAX Secure Wireless Access Points

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC - News) announced its next generation embedded processor for enterprise-class wireless access points at this week's Embedded Systems Conference(SM) in San Jose. The PowerPC® 405EX is based on Power Architecture(TM) technology and is optimized for the demanding requirements of 802.11n (Wi-Fi) and WiMAX(TM)-based wireless access points and similar embedded processing or network control applications.

Based on a 90 nm CMOS® technology, the 405EX advances the state of the art in embedded processors for access equipment. The 405EX features dual PCI Express interfaces for connectivity to Wi-Fi or WiMAX radio chipsets or to other PCI Express-based chipsets. The internal bus architecture, security acceleration and integrated Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs) ensure that the full bandwidth of 802.11n will be available. The high level of integration in the 405EX SoC reduces the external components required for next generation WLAN access point designs, which reduces systems complexity and bill of material cost resulting in faster time-to-market and lower cost products.

High Performance at Low Power

The Power Architecture core of the 405EX delivers a frequency range up to 667 MHz and is capable of delivering over 1,000 DMIPS of processing performance. A cross bar-based, on-chip system interconnect, provides low latency and increased bandwidth connectivity to a high-performance DDR2 SDRAM controller for main memory and to the PCI Express and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The sub 2 Watt typical power dissipation of the 405EX enables access points to utilize the 802.3af standard for Power-over-Ethernet. The benefit is obvious when considering that most access points are placed in ceilings or high on walls where access to AC power outlets is limited.

Security Acceleration

The 405EX features a best-in-class Turbo Security Engine that supports standard IPSec, SSL and DTLS security protocols. The Turbo Security Engine attaches directly to the processor bus for the fastest possible system throughput. Companies Combine Space-Saving SFP+ Connectivity with Low-Latency Ethernet Switching in New Design

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fulcrum Microsystems® and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC - News) today announced a new, jointly designed SFP+ 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch reference design that combines Fulcrum's FocalPoint® FM2224 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch chip with AMCC's QT2035S SFP+ physical layer IC. The companies will demonstrate the solution at the upcoming OFC/NFOEC Technical Conference and Exposition March 25-29 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The reference design is the first to marry the space-saving SFP+ module form-factor, which is up to 30% smaller than competing form factors, with a high-performance, low-latency switch.

The joint Fulcrum/AMCC reference design is a 24-port, pizza-box-style switch with 12 SFP+ module cages and 12 CX4 connectors. The AMCC QT2035S IC enables all reaches of 10GE in an SFP+ form factor, including SR, LR, LRM and ER. In addition, 10 GbE over twin-axial copper cable is also supported. The use of Fulcrum switching technology ensures wire-rate switching performance with the industry's lowest latency of 200 ns. The combination provides the highest density and highest performance 10GE switching solution available on the market today.

Acabei de entrar Longo em AMCC e penso que tem caminho aberto para atingir os 4 dólares durante as próximas sessões... o volume e a cotação acima da MM50 dias parecem-me ser bons sinais para este "trade"...
