"Annoying that Boeing (BA - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) stays so strong. You want some other horse to go on to. You don't want to hear it anymore .But get used to it, because the wins Boeing is now accumulating vs. the wounded Airbus are just off the charts.
When I think Airbus, I think Luftansa. When you decide, as European countries, to create Airbus to put people to work and subsidize the craft of building planes, you know you have a layup customer in Germany's airline. I am surprised that country's even allowed to buy Boeing planes.
Today's announcement that Luftansa is buying the lucrative and easy-to-make updated 747 -- an afterthought at Boeing -- causes me to believe that Boeing's stock is not even stopping at $100.
Aerospace cycles tend to last seven years. It takes seven years for the companies to make too many planes exactly at the moment when the airlines themselves are sated.
You never want to say this time is different because it allegedly costs you a lot of money. But the twin spurs of Airbus' total inability to deliver planes and the higher price of jet fuel have made this inning four in a nine-inning game, if anything, not a seven-inning contest.
It's boring to stick with one story. But when you look at Boeing's last quarter with the increased research and development for new planes, something that the analysts mostly took as a sign that Boeing, too, can't build the next generation right, you got very little enthusiasm for the stock from the analysts. An order of the easy-to-make 747 -- from Lufthansa, no less -- could mean some of these on-the-fence analysts at last bolt toward Boeing, and that's what will propel the stock to $100. "
