U.S. Oct ISM shows improvement in factory sector (10:03am

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Factory activity in the United States grew in October for the fourth consecutive month in October and at a faster pace than in September, the Institute for Supply Management reported Monday.
The ISM index rose to 57.0 percent in October from 53.7 percent in September.
Readings over 50 percent indicate that most manufacturing firms said business was getting better or at least no worse.
Economists had expected the index to rise to about 55.4 percent



U.S. Sept. construction outlays up 1.3% vs forecast of 0.4% (10:00am

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - Led by a revival in business structures, spending on U.S. construction projects rose about 1.3 percent in September, the Commerce Department estimated Monday.
Economists were expecting a modest gain of about 0.4 percent.
August's increase was revised to 0.7 percent from 0.2 percent previously.
Spending on private-sector projects rose 1.7 percent, while government spending was essentially unchanged.
Spending on private non-residential buildings rose 2.5 percent, the biggest gain in a year and the highest level since March.
Spending on private residential projects rose 1.4 percent. Construction spending is up 3.1 percent year-to-date.
