Apple Inc (AAPL.O) shares briefly dropped more than 7.5 percent on Wednesday, to $321.87, in another reminder of the volatility that sparked a "flash crash" a year ago this week.

The one trade of 100 shares generated at BATS Equities Exchange hit the tape at 10:53:35 EDT, according to Reuters data.

Exchange officials were not immediately available to comment.

Alguma hora, algo terá que ser feito”, escreveu Reiner.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 20 (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter revenue that blew past Wall Street expectations, fueled by solid demand for iPhones.

The consumer electronics giant said its revenue rose to $24.67 billion, better than the average analyst estimate of $23.38 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

JP Morgan: Apple's 2Q 2011 revenue estimate raised to $24.42 billion

Ahead of Apple's quarterly earnings call on Apr. 20, investment bank J.P. Morgan has raised its projections of Apple's earnings through 2012 in expectation of continued growth from the iPhone and iPad.

J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz issued a note to investors early Friday with the revised estimates, reiterating the firm's Dec. 2011 price target of $450 and Overweight rating of Apple. Moskowitz raised his projections for Apple's EPS for the second quarter of fiscal 2011 to $5.39, up from $5.21 and increased his revenue estimate for the March quarter from $23.83 billion to $24.42 billion.

According to Moskowitz, the Street consensus for the quarter stands at $23.26 billion in revenue and $5.38 EPS.

By comparison, in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, which included the retail-heavy holiday season, Apple reported a record $26.74 billion in revenue. In the year ago quarter, Apple beat Wall Street expectations with $13.5 billion in revenue.

While cautioning that "the law of large numbers stands to diminish the relative magnitude of earnings beats exhibited in years past," Moskowitz noted that Apple's growth trends "will be too big to ignore."

Apple is set to reveal its quarterly earnings for the second fiscal quarter of 2011 on a call next Wednesday, April 20. The call will begin after the market closes, at 5 p.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. Pacific.

Some long-term Apple investors view Nasdaq's rebalancing as a rare buying opportunity



With news guaranteed to roil the stock markets, the Wall Street Journal reported shortly after midnight Tuesday that Nasdaq OMX is set to announce a major rebalancing of its closely followed Nasdaq-100 index. According to the Journal:

"The move could mean significant selling pressure on Apple shares by money managers tracking the index. Because of the way the index has been calculated, Apple was given more than twice the weight in the index than it should have had based on its number of shares. Under the new plan, it will be reduced to the weight it should have given its size."

The report triggered some predictable grumbling among Apple investors, irked that Apple's (AAPL) shares will be punished for having grown four-fold in the past two years while Microsoft's (MSFT) will be rewarded for having lost 42% of their value in that time.

But judging from the overnight chatter in Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board, most Apple shareholders saw two advantages:


Apple should be more insulated in the future from manipulation by hedge funds, which have been accused in the past of shorting Apple and spreading rumors as a convenient way to push the entire Nasdaq-100 down
If the stock does get dumped Tuesday by money managers scrambling to rebalance their holdings, it will give long-term investors a rare opportunity to buy the world's most valuable technology company at a bargain price
"Get your stink bids set!" wrote Julian Alexander, a regular on AAPL Sanity who posts under the handle Tommo_UK.

"This is going to be a one-off opportunity as it pans out. The hedgies just got their favourite weapon of mass destruction turned into a pop-gun. They won't be able to manipulate the market as easily now. While AAPL gets churned, the average investor and trader will finally be able to get into the stock during a period of consolidation, sell-offs, and rallies which will end up with the big guns no longer using AAPL as their proxy, nor the stock so vulnerable to rumours with less attention on it."

Por causa das mudanças das regras impostas pelo NASDAQ hoje vem aí grande tombo para Apple. Já caiu cerca de 10 dólares no pré mercado.

Apple Is So Huge The Nasdaq Is Downsizing It In Its Index

Apple has grown so huge that it now makes up 20% of the value of the Nasdaq-100 index, which is too much. So the Nasdaq is planning to rightsize Apple to more like 12%, the WSJ says.
This could hammer Apple shares because plenty of fund managers track the index and so would downsize their holdings of Apple shares.
But on the plus side, the index wouldn't be so linked to the performance of one company.
