LISBON (AFX) - Shares Electricidade de Portugal fell again following a
report in Spain's Expansion that chief executive Joao Talone has gone
to Madrid today to meet industry minister Jose Folgado, dealers said.
At 10.35 am, EDP shares were down 0.01 at 2.00 eur, while the
PSI-20 index was down 35.60 points or 0.61 pct at 5,802.14.
Folgado said on Friday that he expected to agree soon to end the
ruling restricting EDP's voting rights to 3 pct in 40-pct owned
Spanish affiliate Hidroelectrica del Cantabrico SA.
EDP shares fell 0.06 eur or 2.90 pct on Friday after Expansion
reported that EDP is near a deal to raise its stake in Hidrocantabrico
to 75 pct.
EDP denied any talks, but investors still believe it will make a
move once the voting rights restriction is lifted, analysts said.
"This meeting is one more step indicating that the end of limits
to EDP's voting rights in Hidrocantabrico seems to be close to
becoming a reality," said Miguel Viana of Espirito Santo research.
"As we said before, this issie is particularly relevant for EDP
if the company wants to acquire the 35 pct of EnBW in the Spanish
company," he said.
Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG, an affiliate of Electricite de
France, also denied talks to sell the stake to EDP.
