Nas TVs têm colocado esta questão, associada à da GM, como o catalizador do deslize dos futuros.. o Empire State Survey, que mede a capacidade manufactureira da região de NY:
"Business in the factory sector in the New York region worsened in April, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported Tuesday.
The Empire State manufacturing survey dropped to negative 20.4 in April from negative 2.8 in March, the lowest level since October 2001.
Readings under zero indicate that a majority of firms surveyed reported that business is worsening or getting no better.
The new orders index fell to negative 15.9 from negative 4.7.
Factory operators are somewhat upbeat about conditions in the fall; the future index rose to 37.9 from 30.2. "

bem.. a GM foi a culpada... ali pelo 2º parágrafo, que os resultados do 1ºQ até foram bons mas para a maioria isso é passado:
"General Motors (GM) reported first-quarter net income of $1.5 billion, or $2.71 per diluted share, up from $228 million, or 57 cents per share, in the year-ago period. GM's adjusted income, which excludes a gain from the sale of GM Defense and results from Hughes Electronics, totaled $1 billion, or $1.84 per share, up from $791 million, or $1.39 per share. The figure of $1.84 per share beat the forecast of $1.54 per share in a survey of analsyts by Thomson First Call. Sales were $42 billion, up from $39.7 billion and ahead of the target of $38 billion.
GM said it's "now less certain" of its 2003 calendar-year guidance of $5.00 per share, "given the uncertain economic conditions around the globe." Analysts are forecasting 2003 EPS of $4.63 for GM. GM said it's not providing any specific update to its calendar-year earnings guidance at this time. "
P.S. excelente o fórum ter passado a um portal financeiro... uma evolução que espero bem sucedida.
