Oil prices fall as Energy Dept posts crude stock rise
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- December crude in New York is down 17 cents at $55 a barrel after the Energy Department said crude supplies rose 4 million barrels to 283.4 million barrels for the week ended Oct. 22.
Distillate inventories, however, fell for a sixth week, down 2.4 million barrels at 116.6 million barrels.
Gasoline stocks rose by 1.3 million barrels to total 201.2 million barrels.
November heating oil is down 0.31 cent at $1.565 a gallon and November unleaded gasoline is down 0.75 cent at $1.405 a gallon.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- The American Petroleum Institute said distillate inventories for the week ended Oct. 22 fell by 2.3 million barrels.
The Energy Department reported a 2.4 million-barrel decline.
Crude stocks rose by 4.4 million barrels.
Gasoline stocks were up 2.3 million barrels, according to the API data.
November crude is now up 23 cents at $55.40 a barrel in New York after tapping a fresh record intraday high of $55.65.
