S&P 500 near an intermediate-term buy signal: S. Barney ($SPX) 10:44am

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - The intermediate-term technical picture for the U.S. stock market has shown "notable improvement" over the past four weeks, said Smith Barney technical strategist Louise Yamada, and is close to producing a "buy" signal.

She said a close above 1,155.00 in the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) would trigger the "buy" signal, which could take the index up to 1,250.
