Gateway... Going.. Going. Gone
Gateway warned of a bigger-than-expected loss Tuesday, citing disappointing sales during the crucial holiday season and aggressive sales promotions from other personal computer makers.
The Poway, Calif.-based company said it now expects fourth-quarter revenue of $1.06 billion, down from a prior "best case" scenario of sales of $1.2 billion.
Gateway , which has put up a string of quarterly losses amid stiff competition from Dell Computer Corp. and a slack personal computer market, said it now sees a fourth-quarter loss of 18 cents to 19 cents a share, versus a prior "best case" scenario of a loss of 13 cents.
Analysts had expected Gateway to have fourth-quarter revenue of $1.22 billion, and a loss of 14 cents a share, according to tracking firm First Call.
Gateway also said it was evaluating a dispute with a "major partner," and that the dispute could add an additional 3 cents a share in losses in the fourth quarter.
Trading in the shares of Gateway was halted the after-hours session when the warning was announced. The stock closed on the New York Stock Exchange at $3.17.
My personal opinion... Gateway is Gone... next stop you know what.
