11/30/2012| 05:57am US/EasternALCATEL-LUCENT : wins 2012 ‘Broadband Innovation of the Year’ title in Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Awards
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,November 30, 2012 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has been publicly honoured for its role in extending access to fast broadband services in Asia by being awarded the title '2012 Broadband Innovation of the Year' in the Fifth Telecom Asia Reader's Choice Awards in Kuala Lumpur. This annual industry event recognizes innovations and contributions to the industry by the top telecom vendors operating in the Asia-Pacific region.
In presenting the award, Telecom Asia praised Alcatel-Lucent for the commercial introduction of its VDSL2 Vectoring technology. The official award citation read: "Alcatel-Lucent was the first to announce a commercially-available VDSL2 Vectoring solution in September 2011, and has a track record of six commercial VDSL2 Vectoring contracts to date (including Belgacom and Telekom Austria), and trials with more than 20 service providers around the world. Alcatel-Lucent's VDSL2 Vectoring technology builds on the company's ISAM family of fixed access products, which has already been deployed by more than 250 service providers, and supports more than 90 VDSL2 projects."
Governments and service providers in over 90 nations have set aggressive national broadband targets and firm timelines to make affordable high-speed broadband and wireless services universally available, and Alcatel-Lucent's VDSL2 Vectoring technology is playing an important role in extending that accessibility. At present, Asia is home to 12 such national projects and governments and operators are investing heavily in critical infrastructure to connect people to the digital economy and make services like banking, healthcare, commerce and mLearning available.
"Alcatel-Lucent is delighted to be recognized by Telecom Asia's readers," said Fazlin Mohd, President of Alcatel-Lucent for Malaysia, accepting the prestigious award on the company's behalf. The dynamic intensity and diversity in the Asia Pacific region is driving innovation in telecommunications. The next five years will be even more exciting, and Alcatel-Lucent's innovative technologies will be at the heart of this change."
Alcatel-Lucent's latest innovation in the VDSL2 Vectoring domain, called Zero-Touch Vectoring, automatically ensures that VDSL2 modems already installed in customers' homes can continue to run at full speed without undermining the service quality for customers subscribing to higher-speed VDSL2 Vectoring. This eliminates the need to update the firmware on all modems on the network, as was previously necessary. As such, Zero-Touch Vectoring really clears the path for the quick, cost-effective rollout of superfast broadband over existing copper lines.

The PCCS consists of Cable & Wireless Communications, Setar, Telconet, Telefonica Global Solutions and United Telecommunication Services (UTS)
100G Pacific Caribbean Cable System spanning 6000km will link Florida and Ecuador and help increase digital integration and capacity growth in the region.
Paris and Aruba, November 30, 2012 - A group of telecommunications operators consisting of Cable & Wireless Communications, Setar, Telconet, Telefónica a Global Solutions and United Telecommunication Services (UTS) has signed a turnkey contract with Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) to deploy the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS), a 100G submarine cable system linking Jacksonville, Florida to Manta, Ecuador.
The 6000km submarine cable system will strengthen digital links as demand grows rapidly throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America for online content such as tourism related services, sports coverage and digital TV. Work will start before the end of the year and commercial operations for the PCCS are scheduled to commence by the third quarter of 2014.
In addition to Florida and Ecuador, the system will connect the islands of Tortola, Puerto Rico, Aruba and Curacao, as well as Cartagena in Colombia and Maria Chiquita and Balboa in Panama. The system will have an ultimate design capacity of 80 Terabit-per-second, dramatically boosting connectivity and substantially increasing the availability of broadband services. Additionally, the PCCS will increase communications reliability and help reduce the risk of communications disruption by providing cable route diversity and alternative bandwidth access to existing cables in the region.
The Alcatel-Lucent solution to be deployed for the project includes an integrated 100G wet plant of cable optimized with coherent submarine fiber and high bandwidth repeaters, power feed equipment, and its 1620 Light Manager (LM) submarine line terminal equipped with advanced coherent technology. Offering unique flexibility and scalability to accommodate multiple data rate wavelengths, the Alcatel-Lucent 1620 LM enables seamless capacity upgrade on flexible grid for channel spacing without traffic interruption. The solution will be managed by the Alcatel-Lucent end-to-end submarine management system. As part of the turnkey contract, Alcatel-Lucent will also be responsible for project management, system design, marine operations and system commissioning.

ALCATEL-LUCENT : Motive Customer Experience Solutions from Alcatel-Lucent selected by BT
11/29/2012| 05:32am US/Eastern
Under new four-year extension agreement BT to add 'big data' analytics to its toolkit, to strengthen customer service capabilities
Paris, November 29, 2012 - BT, one of the world's leading communications services companies, has selected Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE: ALU) to strengthen its customer service capabilities by using a new set of data collection and management solutions in its broadband and IPTV support departments.
The agreement builds on BT's long-standing use of Alcatel-Lucent's portfolio of Motive Customer Experience Solutions, which has helped support significant improvements to the care and support functions BT offers its millions of broadband customers. These improvements include increased 'first call resolution', which tracks the company's responsiveness the first time a customer calls, as well as a reduced need overall for calls to the help desk.
Under a four-year contract extension with Alcatel-Lucent, BT will upgrade its suite of Motive Customer Experience Solutions with latest-version software to support new features, and will deploy the new Motive Data Collection Manager (DCM), which is used to track the performance of the rapidly proliferating number of communication devices in peoples' homes. The data is then made available to BT's customer service teams - safely and securely - so they can proactively manage how the network and devices perform, ensuring a better overall experience for BT customers.
Warren Buckley, Managing Director of Customer Service at BT said: "Our retail division in the UK operates in a very competitive market and the quality of the customer experience is of paramount importance to us to avoid churn within our customer base. Our long-term relationship with Alcatel-Lucent has helped us to maintain the quality that our customers expect; the additional benefits of DCM align completely with our drive for continuous improvement in customer support along with the added benefit of providing new features."
The addition of Motive DCM to BT's toolkit will not only make it easier to manage customers' devices remotely, but also will provide tools to help customers with self-service capabilities. For BT, the solution provides the business benefits associated with self-service in a format that can be integrated with its existing business processes.
Lucy Dimes, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent UK&I said: "We are very pleased that BT has chosen to extend its contract for customer experience management, and also its decision to expand the agreement with the addition of our Motive Data Collection Manager. This is a clear indication of the additional focus BT is placing on customer experience management, as it continually seeks ways to provide the best possible service to people in their homes. This strategic partnership with BT also reflects Alcatel-Lucent's continued commitment to customer experience management and highlights how our ongoing investments in this space are paying off."
