First American acusado de fraude com avaliadora imobiliária por inflacionar preços das casas

O procurador-geral de Nova Iorque acusa o First American de conspiração com uma avaliadora imobiliária, a Washington Mutual, destinada a inflacionar o valor das casas para efeitos de concessão de crédito, noticia o Finantial Times.

Andrew Cuomo alega que a subsidiária do First American, eAppraiseIT cedeu à pressão da Washington Mutual para usar uma lista de avaliadores que atribuiam preços de casas inflacionados, entrando num esquema que contribuiu para a crise do crédito hipotécario.

"A independência da avaliadora é essencial para manter a integridade da indústria de crédito", diz o procurador de Nova Iorque acusando o First American de ter violado essa independência entrando num esquema com a Washington Mutual destinado a "roubar donos de casas e investidores".

Equities: Focus is on the European financial sector. UBS kicked off the week showing a bigger loss in Q3 than expected. Today Credit Suisse said its structured-products business recorded a cut in valuations of 1.1 billion francs. The sector has been the biggest downward mover today at around -2.6% . Credit Suisse also said it is too early to predict an end to the turmoil in the credit markets.


Equities: CItigroup falls 7.3% to $38.35 in NY trading, on the rumor that the bank may have to cut its dividend or sell assets to shore up capital. The price is at the lowest in more than four years.
