"A Trading Rally Is Due"

"Texas Instruments (TXN - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) is classic. It was terrible. Miserable. Nothing here.
But in the end, it said some positive things, and you knew some analysts couldn't resist. Hence the Merrill upgrade.
Texas Instruments is not expensive. But that's been a factor for a dozen years now. Nevertheless, it is a nice symbol for Merrill to try to get a rally going in tech.
I think a trading rally is due, and Texas Instruments is the benign catalyst to get it going.
Remember, I said yesterday would be the options hangover and then a rally. You get DuPont (DD - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) as fine, Wachovia (WB - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) with a slight uptick in bad loans, but nothing to worry about, and you get the Texas Instruments upgrades.
That's enough to get things going. Rally on schedule if the market opens flat to down.
Not much if it opens up. "
