SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The American Petroleum Institute reported a rise of 7.6 million barrels in crude supplies for the week ended Jan. 12. The Energy Department had reported a climb of 6.8 million.
Motor gasoline supplies were up 3.3 million barrels, the API said, vs. the government's reported rise of 3.5 million.
Distillate supplies rose 395,000 barrels, the API said, compared with the 900,000-barrel climb reported by the government
