The American Petroleum Institute reported a drop of 4.3 million barrels in crude supplies for the week ended Dec. 15. The Energy Department had reported a fall of 6.3 million.
Motor gasoline supplies were down 300,000 barrels, the API said, but the government's reported a rise of 1 million.
Distillate supplies were down 1.4 million barrels, the API said, contrary to the 1.2 million-barrel rise reported by the government.
