The American Petroleum Institute said crude supplies fell 866,000 barrels for the week ended Nov. 3. The Energy Department had reported a rise of 400,000 barrels.
Motor gasoline supplies were up 1.3 million barrels, the API said -- contrary to the 600,000-barrel fall reported by the government.
Distillate stocks declined by 2.1 million barrels, the API said. The Energy Department had reported a fall of 2.7 million barrels.
