Unit labour costs
Oct 19th 2006
From The Economist print edition

Although America's manufacturing workers are better compensated than those in Europe, they are also more productive than most. As a result, the cost of labour per widget—or unit labour cost—is lower in America than in any European country except Finland and Ireland, according to the Conference Board and the Groningen Growth and Development Centre. The dollar's fall since 2002 has sharpened America's edge.
