CALDEIRÃO DE BOLSA

Com a sessão de hoje só a começar, a NEOM rapidamente recuperou toda a perda de sexta-feira, regressando ao patamar dos 11 cêntimos que, mesmo assim, é uma cotação demasiado baixa, permitindo uma boa oportunidade de entrar ou reforçar a estes níveis.

A conferência para os investidores começa daqui a 2 horas e meia, vamos lá ver se há boas notícias que impulsionem ainda mais a NEOM lá p'ra cima!

Entretanto, para já os balões são os índices, como era de prever. Resta depois saber o que acontecerá quando os targets e novos máximos forem alcançados. Por certo um recuo, mas de que dimensão?! É esta a questão mais importante, de momento, já que agora não vale muito a pena perseguir uma subida na sua fase final, muito provavelmente.

Mas quanto à NEOM, ela vai sempre em crescente...

Para já, e depois do comunicado cujo teor transcrevi acima, a NEOM anunciou uma Conference Call para o dia de amanhã. Eis esse anúncio:

Logo, aguardemos pelos novos desenvolvimentos, já que os accionistas começam a ficar impacientes e a criticar a aparente pouca agressividade da empresa perante concorrentes surgidos muito depois do aparecimento da NEOM, na década de 1990.

O certo é que hoje já se recuperou mais de metade da queda, até ver. Notícias positivas por parte da gestão da NEOM poderão criar um novo élan, tanto nos antigos como nos novos accionistas, assim o espero!

Por fim, convém recordar que o investimento em penny stocks tem regras próprias e é, muitas vezes, um jogo de "tudo ou nada". Esta empresa ou sobrevive até à vitória ou definha e morre sem glória. Eu continuo a pensar que a 1ª hipótese é a mais natural e viável, logo mantenho-me sereno e confiante...

Amanhã volta a cair de novo mais de 25%

Confirma-se a excelente reacção da NEOM hoje, após o comunicado da empresa ter, aparentemente, dissipado algumas dúvidas e acalmado os receios dos investidores.

Embora não tão elevado como na passada sessão, o volume desta já é cerca de 10 vezes superior ao número de títulos normalmente transaccionados.

Neste momento, a NEOM está a cotar precisamente no máximo do dia (0.094) a subir 35% (!!!), pelo que um fecho acima dos 10 cêntimos parece assim bem possível.

Logo, voltou a serenidade...

Com uma subida de 22% a NEOM pelo menos estancou a hemorragia da passada sessão, parecendo que os investidores estão a dar crédito ao esclarecimento que a empresa forneceu hoje ao mercado.

NeoMedia Questions Content and Timing of Investor Newsletter’s E-Mail to Subscribers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM), an innovator in market-driven technologies, said today that it questions the content and timing of an e-mail sent by an investor newsletter to its subscribers on Friday, October 6th.

Charles T. Jensen, president and CEO of NeoMedia, said the e-mail was sent by ChangeWave MicroCap Investor, a weekly newsletter published by Phillips Investment Resources, LLC, to subscribers just before 12 p.m., proclaiming in a headline, “time to sell NeoMedia.” Mr. Jensen said the e-mail “set off record selling by NeoMedia investors,” with the share price dropping by 36.9%. By day’s end, more than 42 million shares traded, an increase of some 1,600% over NeoMedia’s three-month average shares for daily trades.

Immediately prior to the distribution of the e-mail, NeoMedia was in the final stages of the negotiation process with a well known mobile market industry participant who is a contributor to the newsletter. Mr. Jensen said the agreement being finalized called for the outside party to receive cash and stock from NeoMedia, with the stock to be valued at the closing share price on the day the agreement was signed – which was to be Friday, October 6, which was the same day that the e-mail was distributed.

“NeoMedia received the agreement signed by the industry participant/newsletter contributor almost concurrently with the distribution of the e-mail,” he said. “Had we counter-signed – which we did not – the insider/newsletter contributor would have received a significantly higher number of shares as a result of a lower share price, as we believe was precipitated by the content and timing of the e-mail.”

E-Mail Points to ‘Wrong Market Strategy’

Mr. Jensen said that the e-mail to newsletter subscribers described and focused on mobile search.

“Mobile search is a component of the mobile marketplace that NeoMedia may pursue down the road in order to commercialize and monetize patents we acquired from Loyaltypoint 18 months ago (see “NeoMedia Adds to IP Portfolio by Acquiring Search-Oriented Patents for Mobile Marketing,” Business Wire, April 12, 2005),” he said. “But if the purpose of the e-mail was to inform its recipients of what NeoMedia is doing today, in the U.S. and around the world, it pointed them to the wrong market strategy.

“NeoMedia’s go-to-market strategy is ‘direct connect,’ giving brands and companies the power and tools to interact directly with their customers in a ‘pull’ scenario,” Mr. Jensen said. “We know that marketing departments and agencies want to connect their brands and their customers directly, not through a mobile search process, which is completely different from where they are today. The NeoMedia Direct Connect approach, through our qode® application and product line, is designed to reward both marketer and consumer. It is NOT a search approach, as the e-mail told its now ill-informed subscribers.”

Mr. Jensen said that the Web site for ChangeWave MicroCap Investor says the newsletter “is a potential millionaire-maker service for speculators (not traders) with long time horizons and strong stomachs for volatility.”

“The content and timing of Friday’s e-mail more than tested the strength of the stomachs of everyone connected with and invested in NeoMedia,” Mr. Jensen said. “And it didn’t leave a very good taste in our mouths, either.”

Mr. Jensen said that “no company likes litigation... it’s time-consuming, costly and wearying. But, when NeoMedia has gone to the legal system, we have a spotless record. We have come away with licenses and fees, and, in one case, a patent infringer chose to walk away from their business.

“For more than a decade, NeoMedia has worked to build its brand and patent portfolio, while working diligently and honestly to reward shareholder investment and loyalty ... in the marketplace and, when necessary, in the courtroom,” Mr. Jensen said.

Pela minha parte, continuo a acreditar no sucesso comercial da NEOM, mas não vou aumentar a minha posição antes de ver alguma recuperação que leve a acção pelo menos acima dos 10 cêntimos, o que até pode já acontecer hoje... hopefully!

A débacle da NEOM na última sessão pode ou não prolongar-se ainda na próxima semana, até atingir um valor onde a cotação estabilize, mesmo que só durante um prazo curto. Actualmente, é impossível prever qualquer cenário, mas podemos estar perante uma importante capitulação com um "panic sell" provocado pela saída maciça de investidores de longo prazo que deixaram de acreditar na viabilidade da empresa.

O certo é que o poder de Tobin Smith e da sua "Change Wave" viu-se na surpreendente evolução da NEOM, ilustrada no gráfico abaixo, desde que recomendou pela 1ª vez esta penny, em 2004, até à sua recente recomendação de venda. Pode, pois, afirmar-se que TS levou esta penny dos 7 até aos 70 cêntimos - são quase 1000%! - e trouxe-a agora de novo ao seu patamar inicial.

Entretanto, já após o final da sessão, ele enviou a seguinte nota aos subscritores da "MicroCap Investor":

We reached the end of the road of our NeoMedia Technologies (NEOM) story today and, unfortunately, I can't say it was a happy ending. As much as we liked the story behind the company and its technology, we can't advocate hanging on when the odds are against us.

As I look back, I hope that those with a low cost basis who were on this ride with us as Microcap Investor subscribers took money off the table as the stock reached its peak levels. There's no shame in taking in your original investment (or just taking some profits) when you find yourself with a rocket in your portfolio.

I don't want to sound trite, but it's a reality that's similar to another cliché we've heard before in the movies - with great potential comes great risk. We do try to reduce the risk in our Microcap Investor service, but sometimes even our best efforts are thwarted. We'll lick our wounds on this one, but we remain confident that we can find many replacements that will make us forget all about this stock in time.


Se houver mais algum desenvolvimento importante, como por certo irá suceder já nas próximas sessões, este é o tópico indicado para o dar a conhecer.

Entretanto, é de vigiar atentamente a NEOM agora, já que uma reacção em alta a este descalabro - que até se pode ainda prolongar! - deve proporcionar algum trade potencialmente MUITO rentável, mesmo até se for apenas um "dead cat bounce". Pessoalmente, continuo convicto da viabilidade da NEOM, a qual continua a acumular contratos através das suas associadas na Europa, estando previsto ainda para este mês o lançamento do Qcode - a tecnologia de ponta da empresa para a interligação móvel-internet.

Por outro lado, os resultados do 3º trimestre devem ser divulgados no final de Outubro e no trimestre passado a melhoria foi já evidente. Logo, talvez estes factos possam constituir uma base de suporte que eventualmente relance a cotação da NEOM para patamares superiores, se bem que não esteja à espera de a ver muito acima dos 12-15 cêntimos nos próximos tempos. E se lá for, já é de aproveitar!

Logo, resta apenas aguardar... atentamente mirar... comprar, vender e lucrar...

A fortíssima queda que a minha tão amada NEOM sofreu hoje, com um volume estrondoso de 42 milhões e meio (!!!) de acções negociadas, cerca de 20 vezes o normal, atirou-a para valores nunca vistos desde 2004 - fecho nos 7 (!) cêntimos exactos! Esta sessão trágica para os ainda "bagholders" foi a consequência natural da recomendação de venda que Tobin Smith deu aos subscritores da sua "MicroCap Investor Newsletter".

THE END OF THE ROAD - TIME TO SELL NEOMEDIA

Dear MicroCap Investor subscribers,

We've reached the tipping point for NeoMedia.

Numerous Depressors were allowed to fester too long and have grown big enough to outweigh any potential major Catalysts that we foresee.

From every fundamental perspective - management and strategy, patent position, marketing prowess, capital structure, and more - we believe that NEOM's future has become too tenuous for us to maintain a buy rating on the stock at its current valuation.

We first recommended NeoMedia in February 2004 and many subscribers reaped some big rewards when it ran up to more than 70 cents, as the market began to recognize the same potential we had identified. But recently, several aspects of the NEOM story have become increasingly troubling. Issues about the company's addiction to dilution, its zig-zag strategy of acquisitions, and its inability to articulate a clear strategy for both its core (PaperClick) and non-core (Auto Paint) technologies brought us to the point where we started to scratch our heads.

Given so many concerns, we determined that we needed answers to our questions to better understand the direction of this company. It hasn't been easy, but finally after talking with a number of people in and around NEOM we have concluded that:

1) People in the mobile search and advertising space are simply getting around the NEOM patents. They are using closed-system searches to end-run NEOM's patents and that's a development that is clearly not good for the company.

2) The big players in the mobile business are just not responding to the NEOM "patent litigation" threat and are side-stepping NEOM in their route to mobile search and advertising gold. For example, Australian competitor Shock Code has its technology on 40 million Sprint bottles in a promotion that should have been a NeoMedia promotion. The fact that it's not speaks volumes about the lack of execution on NEOM's part.

3) The massive number of shares outstanding (and we've articulated this issue for a long time) is just too big a hurdle for the business to overcome. Additionally, it appears that NEOM is not getting any real value for the sale of its auto paint business, so all we can see is more and more serial dilution ahead.

We had a great ride on NEOM last year and we know many of you took our advice to capture profits ranging from 100% to 1,000% in the stock. For those subscribers positioned at a high average cost, we think it's best to cut your losses now...

Em termos práticos, é melhor esperar pelos próximos dias e ver onde a cotação estabiliza e se a empresa esclarece a situação financeira e plano de negócios da Neomedia. É que podemos estar perante uma capitulação ou "panic sell", logo talvez mesmo uma boa oportunidade de comprar ou acumular. Mas, para já, ainda é cedo para o asseverar.
