WITHIN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL
ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE
LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN
SUCCESSIVE WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

Dois sismos com magnitude de 8 e 7.9 na escala de Richter abalaram a região Sul da Ilha de Samatra, na Indonésia. Um dos sismos foi também sentido na capital Jakarta, onde vários edifícios foram evacuados.

As autoridades indonésias já lançaram um alerta de tsunami e o mesmo foi feito pelas autoridades indianas e da Malásia.

Quake Sparks Tsunami Warning

Authorities have issued a tsunami warning after a powerful earthquake hit Indonesia.
The tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 7.9, the Indonesian Meteorological Institute said.
The US Geological Survey said it was centered about 9.7 miles underground in the southern Sumatra area.

Reports said it had caused buildings to sway in the capital, Jakarta.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for wide areas of the region.

"Earthquakes of this size have the potential to generate a widespread destructive tsunami that can affect coastlines across the entire Indian Ocean Basin," it said.
