SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The American Petroleum Institute reported a rise of 5.7 million barrels in crude supplies for the week ended March 16. The Energy Department had reported a climb of 4 million barrels.
Motor gasoline supplies were up 753,000 barrels, the API said. The government reported a fall of 3.4 million.
Distillate supplies were down 168,000 barrels, the API said, compared with the government's 1.7 million-barrel decline.
