MANNHEIM, Germany, Jan 15 (Reuters) - German investor sentiment on the outlook for Europe's largest economy declined by more than expected in January, a closely watched survey showed on Tuesday.
The Mannheim-based ZEW research institute said its economic sentiment indicator, based on a survey of 270 analysts and institutional investors, dipped to -41.6 this month -- the lowest since February 1993 -- from -37.2 in December.
The mid-range forecast in a Reuters survey of 44 economists last week was for a January reading of -40.0, with forecasts ranging from -35.0 to -45.0.
A separate gauge of current conditions for Germany fell to 56.6 points this month from 63.5 in December. The consensus was for a reading of 60.0.
A measure of expectations for the euro region declined to -41.7 from -35.7 in December, the ZEW said. The latest survey was conducted between Dec. 24 and Jan. 14.
