Mais uma tareia nas 3D hoje.
Organovo -16,5%
TheExone - 8.9%
Stratasys -4%
3d Systems -7.9%

The important difference is that it's much harder for the government to regulate guns you print at home. And it's actually legal for anyone to create a gun by themselves.
Also, since they're made of metal, they're more powerful, but they will set off a metal detector while a 3D-printed gun made of plastic likely won't.

MakerBot Academy aims to put 3D printer in every U.S. school
Nov.12, 2013
Brooklyn-based 3D-printer company Makerbot is leading a charge to crowd source 3D printers for every school in America.
This initiative - Makerbot Academy - is a unique partnership between MakerBot, DonorsChoose.org, America Makes, and Autodesk, and was a response to a call to action by the President of the United States.
"MakerBot Academy is a big thing. It is epic. There are around 100,000 schools in the USA and we want those students to be ready for the future," wrote Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot in a blog post.
Beginning November 12, 2013, anyone or any companies interested in this project can donate at the online charity site DonorsChoose.org, a crowd funding site just for teachers. You can pledge to financially support the program, choosing which schools you want to fund. One MakerBot Academy bundle costs around $2,350.
Pettis has personally pledged to put a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer in public high schools in MakerBot's hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition, Ralph Crump, original inventor of FDM 3D printing technology and founder of Stratasys, has pledged to match Pettis's donation.
Pettis encourages everyone to join MakerBot in this effort at an individual or corporate level to help move America's students to the forefront of technology and global competitiveness.
"We need to encourage our teachers and our youth to think differently about manufacturing and innovation." adds Pettis.
Each MakerBot Academy bundle contains a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, three spools of MakerBot PLA Filament, and a full year of the MakerBot MakerCare Service and Protection Plan. MakerBot will also support the teachers with the development of ongoing 3D printing curriculum that teachers can participate in and utilize in the classroom. MakerBot will leverage Autodesk's software and educator curriculum as well. When making their request, teachers will need to explain what they want to do in their classroom with the device.
MakerBot is also launching a week-long MakerBot Thingiverse Math Manipulatives Challenge, from November 12 through 18, 2013, asking its members to quickly develop a variety of different math manipulative 3D designs that can then be available immediately to teachers that receive the MakerBot Academy3D printing package.

A 3D Systems vende mas só por encomenda e o preço só é divulgado após explicarmos qual a finalidade da compra (apenas para empresas).
Mas sim, diria que é uma questão de tempo para as armas ficarem mais acessiveis

Tiny 3D-printed human liver can survive for up to 40 Days
Nov.9, 2013
San Diego medical research company Organovo announced it has created slices of functioning, long-lasting human liver which can survive for 40 days - using a 3D printer.
The 3D printer builds up 20 layers of hepatocytes cells, which carry out liver functions, and along with endothelial cells found in nature which form the liver's architectural support. It also adds cells from the lining of a blood vessel to allow the liver cells to receive nutrients and oxygen.

3D Systems Q3 revenue grows by 50% on higher printer sales
3D Systems Corp announced today that its third quarter revenue grew 50% from the prior year to $135.7 million.
Compared to 2012 quarter:
-- 3D printers and other products revenue increased 76% to $59.8 million.
-- Print materials revenue grew 30% to $33.2 million.
-- Services revenue rose 38% to $42.7 million.
-- Healthcare revenue grew 39% and contributed $16.9 million to total revenue.
-- Consumer solutions contributed $13.5 million to total revenue.
Net income attributable to the company rose to $17.7 million, or 17 cents per share, in the three months to Sept. 30, from $13.5 million, or 16 cents per share, a year earlier.
For the nine months 2013, revenue grew 42% to $358.6 million, on an 81% increase in printers and other products revenue and 27% organic growth, resulting in GAAP earnings of $0.34 per share and non-GAAP earnings of $0.66 per share. Gross profit increased 46% and gross profit margin expanded 120 basis points to 52.3%.
To accelerate its growth rate, the company decided to further increase its R&D, marketing and retail field operations spending in connection with specific, near-term, new product introductions and retail channel expansion. Significant marketplace interest in its recently acquired Phenix direct metals 3D printers also compelled the company to accelerate new products development and capacity investments. As a result, the company updated its annual guidance for the full year 2013, increasing its revenue guidance to be in the range of $500 million to $530 million and, consistent with the step up in discretionary spending, reducing its non-GAAP earnings per share guidance to be in the range of $0.93 to $1.03.
3D Systems also announced it is investing $10 million to expand its Rock Hill, SC, manufacturing operations generating 145 new jobs.

HP to enter 3D printing market in mid-2014
HP is working on developing 3D printing technology, announced HP CEO Meg Whitman at the Canalys Channels Forum in Bangkok. HP plans to enter the 3D printer market in the middle of 2014, said Whitman.
"We are excited about 3D printing,"Whitman said, "We want to lead this business. HP Labs is looking at it."
It seems pretty nature for HP to enter the 3D printing market. HP first ventured into the 3D printing space through a early partnership with Stratasys, which was created in 2010 to produce HP-branded 3D printers. The partnership ended in 2012. but HP's R&D team continues to explore the many possibilities of 3D printing.
As part of its ongoing RAGNAROK (Research on Advancing Glass & Non-organic Applications to Recreate Objects & Kinetics) project in 2012, HP Labs is looking at glass as a potential candidate for use in 3D printing. HP's paper says, "glass is easy to recycle and environmentally friendly. Glass is inexpensive but looks precious; it's pleasant to the touch and is so familiar that customers won't be disappointed by its fragility." Print transparent glass is still the challenge for current 3D printers and HP has been exploring the use of glass and several possible ways of printing it.
Whitman said HP's main focus in its 3D printing research would be the time and cost required to print. "To print a bottle can take eight to ten hours. That's all very interesting, but it is like watching ice melt," she said, "[HP is asking:] 'How do we commercialise to print faster, at lower price points? to enable service providers?"
Whitman added that she does not expect 3D printing to become a big business very quickly. "3D printing is in its infancy.""These businesses go along, get a little traction, go along, get a little more traction, then hit the knee of the curve." Whitman expects 3D printing to reach its inflection point in three years.
No further details about what kind of 3D printing product HP is developing were revealed, but Whitman said it will be a "new technology". And this new technology will be shown off in mid-2014.
