Even More on Globex

"Aaron, the floor trader I spoke, who is obviously a much simpler man than the one you quoted, had this nostalgic take on the situation saying, "It was great; the pit actually had paper coming in and people were watching the order flow instead of screens and jumping and screaming. It was just like the old days." He also requested his name not be used. Nor his age.
I think these two takes highlight the difference between the floor trader (who realizes he's becoming an anachronism) and the guy plugged in upstairs. "

Can you spell MARGIN CALL?

Quando o mercado está comigo tenho sempre contratos a menos;

Globex outtage
5/01/03 03:41 PM ET
"A lot of frustrations about today's Globex outtage. Traders short the e-Minis "got screwed" when trading went down b/c many couldn't afford to the big pit-traded contract.
Many of those folks may have felt compelled to hedge their "stuck" e-mini short by going long the QQQs and/or Spiders, which could have contributed to today's comeback, traders say.
I now eagerly await the conspiracy theories about how this outtage was done by (or for) the PPT to help the market in conjunction with Bush's "Top Gun" impersonation. "

"I expected everyone would be hedged out but I was just surfing some futures boards, and there are some folks acting trapped for whatever reason. Guess we'll find out soon enough. "

"Even if Globex trading is back to normal Friday, the implications of today's outtage may linger, according to one futures trader (who requested anonymity): "Since the market is a dynamic, non-linear system, a price perturbation like today's can alter the intermediate direction of the market since it could cause a large number of positions to be reevaluated simultaneously. That is why I'll trade light the next few days." "
