The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the world’s largest stock exchange, has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the term “NYSE” for an array of metaverse- and non-fungible token (NFT)-related products.
JPMorgan, the largest bank in the U.S., said it has become the first lender to arrive in the metaverse, having opened a lounge in Decentraland, a virtual world based on blockchain technology.
American fast-food behemoth McDonald’s is the latest major brand to make a move into the metaverse by filing no fewer than twelve trademark applications on February 4, eleven of which make direct references to virtual restaurants, cafes, concerts, and other virtual services, goods, and events.
The play-to-earn poker platform from Decentral Games is host to around 6,000 unique players each day,
which makes up more than 30% of Decentraland's daily users. In the past three months,
the game has generated more than $7.5 million in revenue through its various income streams,
according to Decentral Games founder Miles Anthony.
Silvergate Capital, an investment firm that is the parent company of the Silvergate Bank, acquired the technology and assets of Diem, the formerly Facebook-backed stablecoin payment system. The payment totaled $182 million. The technology and assets acquired will reportedly be used for the launch of a Silvergate branded stablecoin.
Meta will join over two dozen other companies who, by joining COPA, have pledged not to enforce their “core cryptocurrency patents” – broadly defined by Max Sills, the general manager of COPA as any “technology that enables the creation, mining, storage, transmission, settlement, integrity, or security of cryptocurrencies.”
