USD & US Stocks - Correlações

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Escreveu:Notable contrarian investors

Warren Buffett is a famous contrarian, who believes that best time to invest in a stock is when shortsightedness of the market has beaten down the price.

Fonte: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Contrarian investing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrarian_investing

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Escreveu:High-profile proponents of value investing, including Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett, have argued that the essence of value investing is buying stocks at less than their intrinsic value.

Fonte: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Value investing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_investing

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Escreveu:Similarity to value investing

Contrarian investing is related to value investing in that the contrarian is also looking for mispriced investments and buying those that appear to be undervalued by the market. Some well-known value investors such as John Neff have questioned whether there is a such thing as a "contrarian", seeing it as essentially synonymous with value investing. One possible distinction is that a value stock, in finance theory, can be identified by financial metrics such as the book value or P/E ratio. A contrarian investor may look at those metrics, but is also interested in measures of "sentiment" regarding the stock among other investors, such as sell-side analyst coverage and earnings forecasts, trading volume, and media commentary about the company and its business prospects.

In the example of a stock that has dropped because of excessive pessimism, one can see similarities to the "margin of safety" that value investor Benjamin Graham sought when purchasing stocks—essentially, being able to buy shares at a discount to their intrinsic value. Arguably, that margin of safety is more likely to exist when a stock has fallen a great deal, and that type of drop is usually accompanied by negative news and general pessimism.

Along with this, although more dangerous, is shorting overvalued stocks. This requires 'deep pockets' in that an overvalued security may continue to rise, due to over-optimism, for quite some time. Eventually, the short-seller believes, the stock will 'crash and burn'.

Seeking Alpha\David Fabian Escreveu:Plan for Success in 2014

Instead of listening to predictions, your first step in preparing for 2014 should be to come up with a game plan. Below are some guidelines to help you with this task:

1. Write down your goals and put them in a place where you can review them often. That way you can monitor your progress and ensure that you are on track to meet your performance objectives. If you are working with an adviser, it always makes sense to get on the same page with them at the beginning of the year so that they understand your expectations.

2. Tune out the noise from the mainstream media and focus on making sound portfolio strategy decisions that allow you to sleep well at night. There are always going to be risks with putting money to work in stocks, bonds, or commodities. However, you can position your portfolio to achieve lower volatility and capture your desired returns with the right asset allocation strategy.

3. Make sure that you have a watch list of holdings that you will be looking to take advantage of in 2014. I monitor both growth and income opportunities across a variety of ETF, mutual fund, and closed-end fund vehicles. That way I am always ready to put cash on the sidelines to work if we get a pullback or an entry point presents itself.

4. Stay balanced and humble with your portfolio as we move into the new year. There will likely be a great deal of changes ahead that will impact your decisions, and risk management will play a big factor in hanging on to your hard-fought gains.

Fecho parcial: Fidelity Iberia & Fidelity Italy

Unience/Fidelity Escreveu:
Cierre parcial de los fondos FF Iberia Fund y FF Italy Fund
by Fidelity 12-12-2013 12:20:13

by Kaloxa 12-12-2013 10:30:40

¿No?

(...)

Risco das políticas económicas: fiscalidade e legislação

(...)

Bloomberg Escreveu:Looking at all U.S. stocks from 1926 to 2011 that have been traded for more than 30 years, a paper published this week by the National Bureau of Economic Research calculated that Buffett’s so-called Sharpe ratio is 0.76 since 1976. That was about twice the stock market’s 0.39.

Bloomberg Escreveu:By breaking down Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio into ownership of publicly traded stocks versus wholly owned private companies, the authors also found the tradable equities performed best. That suggested to them that Buffett’s returns are due more to stock selection than to the pressure he puts on companies he has stakes in to improve their management.
