Waves of B-52 bombers pounded a convoy of Iraqi military vehicles overnight before they could reach the lead elements of the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division in Najaf, about 60 miles south of Baghdad, CNN's Walter Rodgers reported Thursday.

Air traffic controllers with the U.S. Air Force told Rodgers, embedded with the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry of the 3rd Infantry, that the bombers pounded the convoy "almost into oblivion."

Brooks said that the Iraqi force was smaller than initial intelligence reports suggested and that most of the force was destroyed.

É, isso torna tudo mais claro. Simplesmente, o timing das notícias confunde bastante. A forma como foram apresentadas fazia crer que a saída de Bagdad tinha sido há 2 horas, e afinal parece que foi há algumas 8 ...

Os Iraquianos estão a arriscar mais e a expor-se o que até poderá vir a ser benéfico para a Coligação e acelerar o desfecho.

Se os Iraquianos se fecharem no último reduto poderão resistir durante mais tempo, se se expuserem, embora possam ganhar uma ou outra batalha, creio que estão a acelerar o processo... Os recursos das forças da Coligação são muito superiores e até agora as perdas são marginais (face ao poderío instalado e enviado para a região).

Isto já s passou hoje, e parece ter pouco destaque nas notícias, mas os iraquianos falam de 6-11 tanques destruídos. Pode ter sido esse sucesso que os levou a tentar a coisa em muito maior escala agora ...

Mas incognitus, segundo as próprias notícias a tempestade está a abrandar e foi aproveitando esse abrandamento que os Iraquianos aproveitaram para «sair»... E segundo um oficial dos E.U. as condições melhoraram o suficiente para eles enviarem a força área com vista a atrasar a coluna (o que já foi terá sido feito, segundo ele).

O problema é a tempestade de areia, que afecta muitos dos sistemas que dão vantagem à coligação.

Eu devo dizer que não estou nada optimista para um recontro nestas condições.

A CNN fala de "armed vehicles" mas a notícia já saiu há mais de uma hora, incognitus. Se leres a notícia em pormenor fala das duas colunas porque tratam-se de duas colunas, uma maior com cerca de 1000 veículos e outra com cerca de 100, uma saindo de Bagdad e a outra de Basorá.

Entretanto a CBS não fala de "armed vehicles" mas de "travelling buses and SUV"... ou seja, autocarros e jipes... cerca de 3.000 militares da guarda nacional usando veículos «à civil» que se dirigem por uma auto-estrada fugindo à artilharia americana para se juntarem a outros 2.000 para então atacarem os Marines. Pelos vistos não terão grandes meios, estando a fugir à artilharia pesada para atacarem os Marines.

É a "colagem" de uma série de fontes. A CNN só reportou agora a saída da coluna de Bagdad.

Hoje já houve outra batalha em Najaf que n correu bem aos aliados, perderam pelo menos 6-11 tanques (segundo os iraquianos, os meios ocidentais só falam sem números). Possivelmente essa batalha levou os iraquianos a tentar a mesma coisa em maior escala.

Estão sem cobertura Heli, e a tempestade de areia faz as miras laser/térmicas funcionar mal.

Isto PODE correr mal, até porque se fala de uma coluna de 1000 veiculos, ou seja, os US estarão fortemente outnumbered nest batalha.

Já hoje 2 batalhas parecem ter corrido mal (embora a TV não fale ...).
