in MNI, BTPEURO-NOK: One Skandinavian trader writes, the market is, understandably,
buying Nok like it's going out of fashion. This is of course partly
because Chf is no longer is a reliable store of value (safe haven), and
because of the strong economy and positive carry in Nok, and the market
is expecting/hoping SNB will diversify into Nok amongst other
currencies. All of the above reasons are valid, but a little caution is
required here, I think. Norges Bank has a history of being very activist
when they are displeased with the value of the Nok, and the current
Nok7.54 level is a mere 4.25% from the all time low in early
2003. Back then Norges Bank launched a two-pronged attack through
intervention and slashing of rates, and they kept this up for a full
year. Euro-Nok went up 150 big figs back then. Also, one should
keep in mind, that the liquidity in Nok can be VERY poor, especially
when you need it the most......
