Car buying gave U.S. personal spending its biggest boost in five months in December. Incomes rose by the most since June, government figures showed Friday. Personal income was up 0.4 percent, the Commerce Department said. Spending, meanwhile, jumped 0.9 percent, the most since a 1.1 percent rise last July. Purchases of durable goods, which include cars and parts, jumped 6.5 percent last month. The bulk of durable goods spending was done at car dealerships in December, the agency said. Real personal consumption - adjusted for inflation - rose 0.9 percent in November compared with a 0.3 percent November gain.
