U.S. Sept. leading economic indicators down 0.1
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- The U.S. index of leading economic indicators fell 0.1 percent in September, the Conference Board said Thursday.
This is the fourth straight monthly decline, the longest string since mid-2002.
The fall was slightly smaller than the consensus forecast of Wall Street economists, who had expected a 0.2 percent fall.
The coincident index rose 0.2 percent, while the lagging index was unchanged.
A fourth consecutive decline in the index "is a clear signal that the economy is losing momentum heading into 2005," said Ken Goldstein, an economist at the Conference Board.
