U.S. April inflation gauge moderates
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - U.S. personal incomes increased 0.6 percent in nominal terms in April while spending increased 0.3 percent, the Commerce Department said Friday.
Each figure was 0.1 percentage point stronger than the expectation of Wall Street economists.
The personal consumption expenditure price index rose 0.1 percent in April, the lowest inflation since November.
The core PCE price index, which excludes food and energy prices, also rose 0.1 percent.
The core PCE price index is up 1.4 percent year-over-year, the fastast inflation in 14 months but still on the lower end of the Fed's assumed 1 to 2 percent target range.
Inflation-adjusted spending rose 0.2 percent in April.
