Nvidia 1Q EPS 12 Cents Vs 12 Cents

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Nvidia Corp.(NASDAQ-NMS:NVDA) 's (NVDA) first-quarter net income rose 8.1%, aided by a 17% increase in revenue and a lower effective tax rate.

In a press release Thursday, the PC graphics chip maker reported earnings of $ 21.3 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with $19.7 million, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier.

Revenue climbed to $471.9 million from $405 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson First Call, on average, expected the company to earn 10 cents a share on sales of $461.5 million.

Nvidia(NASDAQ-NMS:NVDA) said it improved both margins and its market share in both the overall PC market and the desktop PC segment.
