U.S. Oct factory orders rise 2.2%
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- In another sign of turnaround in the manufacturing sector, the Commerce Department Friday reported factory orders rose a faster-than-expected 2.2 percent in October.
Economists polled by CBS MarketWatch had predicted a 1.9 percent rise in the month.
The report, which shows the largest monthly increase since July of last year and the fifth increase in six months, confirms earlier reports of a pickup in manufacturing activity. Monday, the Institute for Supply Management said factory activity in November rose to its highest level in 20 years.
