U.S. July factory orders up 1.6%
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - Activity at the nation's factories continued to pick up pace in July, the third monthly increase in a row. New orders for factory goods rose 1.6 percent in July after a 1.9 percent rise in the prior month, the Commerce Department said Thursday. The July increase in factory orders was sharply higher than forecast. Economists polled by CBS MarketWatch had predicted a 0.9 percent monthly gain.
