Pfizer Posts Loss on Pharmacia Costs

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc. (NYSEPFENews) on Friday reported a net loss in the second quarter, as costs from its $60 billion acquisition in April of Pharmacia Corp. weighed on results.
The world's largest drugmaker reported a loss of $3.59 billion, or a loss of 48 cents per share. A year earlier, it earned $1.96 billion, or 32 cents per share.
Excluding one-time items, the New York-based company reported earnings of 30 cents per share.
Analysts, on average, had forecast quarterly earnings excluding one-time items of 29 cents per share, according to a poll by Reuters Research, a unit of Reuters Group Plc.
