NEW YORK (Reuters) - Manufacturing in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region turned positive in November, raising hopes that the recent soft spot in the country's economy may be nearing an end.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said Thursday its index of business conditions jumped to 6.1 in November from -13.1 in October, compared with expectations for an improvement to 0.0.
In a positive sign for future growth, new orders surged to 11.0 from -1.3 in October. Regional factory owners still shed jobs, though at a slower rate, with the employment index improving to -0.2, compared with -5.1 the previous month.
