NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC) narrowed its revenue forecast for the current second quarter, putting its projected sales at the middle of its previous guidance.
The Santa Clara, Calif., chip maker said it expects revenue in the quarter ending June 28 to be between $6.6 billion and $6.8 billion. It earlier had forecast quarterly revenue to be between $6.4 billion and $7 billion for the seasonally slow quarter.
Intel said its architecture business is performing at the high end of its normal seasonal patterns, while demand for communications products remains soft. It said all other previous forecasts are unchanged. The architecture business includes microprocessors used in PCs that run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system.
The latest announcement was about in line with current Wall Street expectations. Analysts, according to Thomson First Call, expect the company to report sales of $6.65 billion and earnings of 13 cents in the June quarter. That would compare with earnings of nine cents a share and sales of $6.32 billion the previous year.
