"Remember the 3,000"

"You can't help feeling it. Not with this perfect fall day. Knowing that you are off in the morning to save the world, or make big money, or just pay the rent, but knowing that there's a big, beautiful day ahead as the sun is out and the sky is bright blue.

It all seems just so exciting and great and dynamic, the pulsating September when business gets humming, the kids are back in school, no more playing, time to get serious. Time for Wall Street to hum and maybe, just maybe, today will be the big day when you get something right, make the huge trade, land a big piece of commission or make that connection that will allow you to advance to the next level. It's bursting with opportunity and, well, goodness.

And then you remember that day two years ago, when the sky looked just like this and 3,000 of us who are no longer here felt the same way we do now: ready to go to work, ready to make something happen, something on the desk or something in the office, that might make a difference to us, that might make it a big day because that's what we've come down here for. Yeah, the sky looked just like this. And it's in our faces that these 3,000 people were robbed of their lives not by chance, but because evil came to our shores and decided that because we were American, we deserved to be killed.

We must remember these 3,000 people, remember that they had our dreams and our hopes. We must remember that they were murdered for being Americans who came to work on Wall Street. They just wanted to do a good day's work under a beautiful September sky like this so they could go home to their husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, partners, kids, moms and dads and, well, get ready for the next day. Simple, honest.

Remember them, for they should be with us, side by side with us, right now.

And maybe, somehow, they are, in spirit, if not in flesh.

Miss them. "
