Motorola lança “profit warning” para segundo trimestre
9-6-2003 12:42

"No MOT for Me"
By James J. Cramer
06/09/2003 07:54 AM EDT
"It would be great if it were as simple as "Motorola finally admits things aren't so hot, so buy Motorola." I know I would like to. But this company simply seems to do everything wrong from a public relations point of view.
Think back to when it reported. I mentioned at the time that if it would only admit how bad things were, we could get a bottom. It didn't. It said things were fine. Today it admits that things are bad, but blames it all on SARS.
The problems pre-date SARS.
Nevertheless, on top of the decline in Triquint and the overreaction already expected to Nokia's negativity tomorrow, somewhere today people are going to make a stand on the cell-phone stocks and Motorola is going to be a trade.
It just won't be a trade for me. I can't take these guys. They simply can't see through their own incompetence. Until someone new is at the helm of MOT, it will always be a trade.
And most often a trade to the downside.
Random musings: Last week when I wrote that I expected MOT to preannounce, I got a number of critical email from people saying I was a "tool for the shorts." This was hysterically funny, which is why I urged all who thought I was being a tool for the shorts to be sure to ignore my point of view! "

"Look for Buys Now in Case We See a Tech Dip"

"Motorola is rumored to preannounce down. Cisco says things are a little softer. Xilinx wasn't so hot.
You can't find a lot of comfort with TriQuint Come to think of it, Nokia has been stalled here.
Western Digital might blow up; why not? Read-Rite did! The Oracle "bid" was phony!
The next thing we know, the NDX goes down.
There. Now you know what's happening. Let's think about what's going to happen even if Motorola preannounces Monday.
Some things in tech are good: high-end microprocessors, software (because of the economy), broadband and the Web. Some things aren't: spending for telco. But the latter is nothing new. So why not get ready for tech to be hit a little more and circle your names for buying on weakness?
I did that this afternoon when I told Action Alerts PLUS people I am itching to get into Yahoo! here.
Position yourself. Be ready. Near-term negatives are trumping longer-term positives right here.
It's nothing more than that. "
