API posts rise in crude, fall distillate stocks

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- The American Petroleum Institute said crude inventories for the week ended Oct. 8 rose by 3.7 million barrels to total 276.9 million.
The Energy Department reported a 4.2 million-barrel rise.
Distillate stocks were down 2.9 million barrels at 118 million barrels.
Gasoline stocks rose by 537,000 barrels to total 199.8 million, according to the API data.
November crude is now up 86 cents at $54.50 a barrel in New York.
