NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- UBS said it's Index of Investor Optimism fell 12 points in April to 73 vs. 85 in March, on concerns about inflation and income levels.
The decline was mainly due to an 8-point slide in the index's personal dimension, which measures confidence in the ability to maintain income and achieve short and long-term investment goals.
Average expectations for return in the next year fell to 10.4 percent from 12.7 percent in March, although two-third of investors believe now is a good time to invest in the financial markets.
The index's economic dimension, which measures confidence in economic growth, unemployment, stock market performance and inflation, fell four points.
About 59 percent of those surveyed believe the economy is either in a period of sustained expansion or recovery, up from 57 percent in March.
